Graduation Rate Gaps

According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), there is a 10% difference between the High School graduation rates of kids who identified as White (at 89%) versus kids who identified as Hispanic (81%), Black (79%) or American Indian/Alaska Native (74%).This gap only increases when looking at graduation of Higher Education, with a whopping 24% spread between kids who identify as White (64%) and kids that identify as Black (40%) or American Indian / Alaska Native (39%)

The Cycle:

Regardless of the flow of causation, graduation rates are undoubtedly affected by the higher unemployment rates, greater poverty and higher incarceration rates of Hispanic and Black communities, and vice versa.
